In Brisbane, quality rhinoplasty, Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic, face lift, and eyelid surgery procedures can be obtained from the Brisbane, and Mackay Queensland office of Dr. Phillip Bushell-Guthrie. Patients can improve the signs of aging in the face and recontour and reshape their facial features with these effective cosmetic treatments.

Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic
One of the most popular cosmetic treatments available, Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic injections at our Brisbane and Mackay practice can temporarily erase fine lines and wrinkles on the face, particularly furrows between the brows and crow's feet wrinkles. Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic is composed of botulinum toxin at a low concentration that acts to prevent facial muscles from contracting. It is this muscle contracture that causes wrinkling. Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic temporarily paralyzes the muscles, smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines. The treatment can also be effective in decreasing the prominence of troublesome muscle bands that form on the neck as we age.

We can administer Wrinkle Relaxant injections at our Brisbane or Mackay facility the results appear in about one week. The results of one treatment will usually last about three to four months, and patients can have repeat injections once the effects have worn off. Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic can also be used in combination with other procedures, such as face lift or eyelid lifts, to provide a more complete makeover.

For patients looking for subtle cosmetic rejuvenation of the face with improvement of wrinkles and fine lines in the forehead and around the eyes, Wrinkle Relaxant Cosmetic is an effective treatment. Contact our Brisbane or Mackay plastic surgery center today for more information.

Face Lift and Neck Lift (Meloplasty)
Dr. Phillip Bushell-Guthrie can take about 10 years off of your appearance by performing a meloplasty, the medical term for a combination face and neck lift. A face lift carried out in Brisbane or Mackay can work wonders on its own; however, Dr. Bushell-Guthrie finds that a neck lift performed together with the face lift produces even better results, accentuating your natural beauty while making the tell-tale signs of age fade. Dr. Bushell-Guthrie can also combine blepharoplasty, liposuction of the chin and jowls, and chemical peel skin resurfacing with the meloplasty procedure to give the face and neck a more complete cosmetic rejuvenation.

The Face and Neck Lift Procedure
A face and neck lift begins with incisions made in the hairline, from the temples down in front of the ears, then up behind the ears and across the back of the neck in the hair line. Dr. Bushell-Guthrie will lift the skin and tighten the underlying muscles. Excess skin will be removed and the incisions closed. A face and neck lift typically takes between three and four hours to complete under general anaesthesia. Patients can expect a one night hospital stay after the procedure.

Face and Neck Lift Recovery
For the face and neck lift procedure patients should plan to take at least two weeks off work. There is little pain associated with the procedure; however, there will be some light numbness over the face for a few weeks after surgery. Occasionally, permanent spots of numbness can occur after face and neck lift, usually around the ears. Swelling and bruising after the operation are common but should dissipate within two weeks. Patients should be able to return to work after this time.

Dr. Bushell-Guthrie calls meloplasty “the workhorse of facial rejuvenation” because it is so effective at providing good results and a fresher, younger appearance. For more information on face and neck lift, contact our Brisbane plastic surgery practice today.

Mid-Face Lift
The mid-face lift technique can reduce the signs of age by lifting and tightening the skin on the upper portion of the face. Facial structures, over the cheek bones and lower eyelid areas are lifted during the procedure. Mid-face lift surgery is performed in conjunction with lower eyelid blepharoplasty, utilizing the incision made for the blepharoplasty procedure. The mid-face lift procedure is performed under general anaesthesia in a hospital, with an operating time of about two hours. Patients should expect some temporary swelling and bruising after the procedure.

The mid-face lift is useful for younger patients who are not yet ready for a full face lift. Older patients who are experiencing sagging skin at the cheeks can also benefit.

Rhinoplasty
For patients looking to change the shape of the nose and renew their appearance or even improve breathing, Dr. Bushell-Guthrie in Brisbane and Mackay offers rhinoplasty as a way of achieving a whole new look. Rhinoplasty can make the nose smaller or larger and provide better proportions to the overall facial appearance.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty begins with an incision made inside each nostril. The skin of the nose is then lifted up. Any hump is removed and the bones of the nose are adjusted and realigned. If necessary, the nasal tip and cartilage are adjusted also and the airway is tested to ensure that air can pass through. Flaring nostrils can also be modified. After the incisions are closed, plaster is moulded over the nose to support the new shape. Septoplasty, or the straightening of the septum to improve breathing, can be performed on its own or in combination with rhinoplasty. The rhinoplasty procedure typically takes about two hours to complete under general anaesthesia in the hospital. An overnight hospital stay is required.

Rhinoplasty Recovery
There is not much pain with rhinoplasty but there is swelling. Most of the swelling will have gone by about three weeks after rhinoplasty, and the swelling should be completely gone within three months after the procedure. The plaster mould will be removed after a week.

Dr. Bushell-Guthrie, Brisbane and Mackay rhinoplasty surgeon, advises that a small change to the nose can improve the appearance of the entire face and give the patient a whole new look.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
While a face lift can tighten up the skin around the eyes, it can't do the same for the skin on the eyelids. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, at our Queensland-area practice can help to eliminate wrinkles and bags on the upper and lower eyelids, which are often the first signs of aging.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
An upper-eyelid blepharoplasty involves an incision made in the fold of the upper eyelid. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then removed. For the lower eyelids, an incision is made under the eye lashes that extends out into the crow’s feet lines. The skin is raised and excess muscle, fat, and skin are removed. A full upper- and lower-eyelid blepharoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia in the hospital. The procedure typically takes about an hour and a half to complete. Patients who undergo upper blepharoplasty are generally able to have the procedure performed under local anaesthesia in my rooms.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Patients should expect some swelling and bruising around the eyes after blepharoplasty, but this should have mostly gone within a week. Slight blurring of vision and light sensitivity is common for the first two days after the procedure.

Eyelid surgery can provide relief from the "tired eyes" look and give the patient a more youthful appearance. It is even more effective for the appearance of the face when combined with brow lift, face lift, or chemical peel resurfacing of the face.

Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, can reduce the prominence of the creases and wrinkles on the forehead that can sometimes create the appearance of exhaustion, worry, and anger. The procedure works to smooth the forehead and raise the eyebrows slightly into a more youthful-looking position.

The Brow Lift Procedure
Dr. Phillip Bushell-Guthrie can perform brow lift surgery using the endoscopic technique, which produces much less scarring. Three or four small incisions are made in the scalp, and a thin endoscope is inserted under the skin and muscle to carry out the procedure lifting the skin and muscles of the forehead. If necessary a small titanium screw is inserted into the bone through each incision, and resorbable sutures are used to anchor the lifted muscles to the screws. Once the sutures have been resorbed, the muscles will have become fixed in their new positions and the incisions will be closed. Brow lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia in the hospital and takes about one-and-a-half hours to complete. An overnight hospital stay is typically required.

Brow Lift Recovery
Patients should expect some temporary numbness of the forehead with the possibility of permanent spots of numbness in the scalp. Mild swelling resulting from the procedure should fade completely within a week, and any bruising from the operation should be gone by about two weeks. Patients should plan to be off of work for at least one week. A brow lift is an excellent compliment to a face lift or eyelid surgery, to provide a more complete cosmetic rejuvenation.

Liposculpture
Liposculpture is a cosmetic surgery technique designed to remove fat from under the skin. This adjustment can reshape and recontour the face, giving it a more pleasing appearance. Fat can be removed with liposuction or added by transferring it from another area of the body. Liposuction is commonly used to reduce fat in the chin and jowl areas, and fat injections can help to fill out the furrows around the mouth and chin, as well as to enhance the contours of the cheek bones.

Liposculpture can be performed on small areas here at our Brisbane and Mackay Queensland rooms or under sedation or general anaesthesia in a hospital. Considerable swelling typically occurs after the procedure, although most of it will have subsided after about two weeks. For more information on liposculpture, contact our cosmetic surgery practice in Brisbane today.

Cheek Augmentation
Individuals who lack definition and prominence of the cheek bones can attain new facial contours with cheek augmentation. This procedure can give shape to the entire face, and it can also enhance the effects of other facial cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty.

Dr. Phillip Bushell-Guthrie can augment the cheeks by using fat from another part of the body. This technique is detailed in the above section on liposculpture. Fat is placed under the skin and over the cheekbones to add volume and definition to the cheeks.

Cheek augmentation typically takes about one hour under general anaesthesia in hospital. Patients should arrange to take at least a week off of work. Considerable swelling and bruising can occur after cheek augmentation, but it is usually gone by about two weeks.

Chemical Peel Skin Resurfacing
Sun damage, dark patches under the eyes, age spots, and an array of other skin issues can be treated with chemical peeling. Trichloracetic acid is used to remove the surface damaged layers of the skin. This rejuvenates the skin.

The procedure typically takes about half an hour for the entire face and it is performed at our Brisbane or Mackay Practice. Some patients prefer sedation in hospital but it can be done under local anaesthesia in the rooms. Swelling is to be expected after skin resurfacing but it should dissipate within about a week. At least a week off of work should be arranged for recovery.
